Whether one is planning a day trip, road trip, getaway, or staycation, Pennsylvania is the place to be during autumn. With its varied landscape of mountainous regions and low lying valleys, the state offers a mixed terrain that is all decorated with splashes of color. With so many possible destinations to choose from it may be difficult to decide where to go and what to see during an autumnal Pennsylvania vacation. Here are some suggestions for things to do and see while vacationing in PA.

Plan a Pennsylvania Vacation to Ride the Rails

A trip to PA isn't complete without riding any one of the many recreational train lines in the state. This is especially true for those visiting Pennsylvania during autumn. As the train winds across the track to its destination passengers are treated to a spectacular site of beautiful, colorful fall foliage as it passes by their windows. Passenger train rides are available in every part of the state, so no matter which area that one visits, they will be able to see the sights as they ride the rails.

Enjoy Pennsylvania in Autumn at Presque Isle

Located in Erie, PA is a place known as Presque Isle. This state park offers visitors the chance of taking a scenic drive around the park while the sights and smells of autumn surround them. If they like, visitors may also park their vehicles and walk the path that runs along the side of the road. This will allow them to crunch leaves under their feet as the chill in the air invigorates their senses.

Visit the Grand Canyon of the Northeast

Pine Creek Gorge is a National Natural Landmark. It is also known as the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. The gorge is filled with hard woods that put on a superb display of color during the autumn months. Visitors can also take in the other sights such as the plentiful wildlife and flowing waterfall. In addition to all that, vacationers can also hike the Turkey Path Trail which will take them one mile toward the bottom of Pine Creek Gorge.

So Much to See and Do

The aforementioned destinations are just a few of the possibilities when it comes to vacationing in Pennsylvania during the autumn months. The options for Pennsylvania vacation destinations are as plentiful as the leaves. One thing is certain, no matter the destination, vacation-goers can rest assured that the trees will do their best to put on a good show.
